A Slow Week In Boxing
This is a really slow week in boxing - it is also when college basketball is awesome. So - if you want to watch some great drama, maybe - just maybe - watch that instead.
The Major Fight
Dalton Smith will fight Jose Zepeda this weekend on DAZN in the U.K. Zepeda is a very good fighter who has recently lost to Richardson Hitchins and Regis Prograis. He probably has seen his best days - but is the biggest step-up in competition that Smith has ever seen. Smith fought only two times last year, because of that I often forget about him in the junior welterweight division - which is strange, because he is really good.
The bout will tell us if Smith will be a domestic fighter for the future or if he can go beyond that level at this point in his career.
undercard.
Sandy Ryan will fight Terri Harper for Ryan’s WBO women’s welterweight title. The bout is the best fight of the weekend. It is a true 50-50 fight. Ryan has moved fast with mixed results. Harper was a world champion and ran into a right-hand of Alycia Baumgardner. This fight has a lot of meaning to it.
Campbell Hatton fights on the undercard. He is in a ten-round bout.
Other Notable Bouts
Albert Bell will fight Jonathan Romero off major network television. Bell is the WBO #1 at super featherweight. The co-feature will see Ladarius Miller vs. Jayson Velez in a 140 lbs fight.
Heavyweight Lenier Pero faces Donnie Palmer.
Michael Magnesi will fight Masanori Rikiishi in Europe.
