This week on the podcast I have two great guests.
Anthony Saladana, a/k/a Stacks, joins the show to preview Prime Video’s Saturday night card between junior middleweight titleholder Sebastian Fundora-Chordale Booker. We talk about the undercard, and ProBox TV’s great main event between Lester Martinez and Joeshon James.
Zach of the Unofficial Scorecard Podcast (https://theunofficialscorecardpodcast.libsyn.com/ep-72-eric-raskin) joins the show to again previewing the return of George Kambosos and talk about the undercard.
The Boxing TV Schedule for March 18-23
Saturday
Sebastian Fundora-Chordale Booker
How to watch: Saturday, 5 PM PST on Prime Video
What You Should Know: Fundora defeated Tim Tszyu last March. After the fight, he hasn’t fought. Booker rebuilt himself on the regional scene and now gets the fight of his life. It is a 50-50 fight with the winner potentially having a breaking out year.
Undercard:
Junior middleweight Jesus Ramos Jr. is making a quick return after fighting February 1. He fights Kevin Salgado, a veteran tough guy, who is better than his record. Opening the card is middleweight Elijah Garcia against 2012 U.S. Olympian Terrell Gausha. Garcia is coming off his first loss of his career to Kyrone Davis, Gausha lost a close fight to WBC titelholder Carlos Adames in his last fight.
Saturday
Geroge Kambosos Jr-Daud Yordan
How to watch: Saturday on DAZN, check local listings
What You Should Know: Kambosos is with a new promoter and fighting in Australia. He is also now a junior welterweight.
Undercard:
The best fight of the card is WBC featherweight titleholder Skye Nicolson taking on Tiara Brown, who is undefeated fighter with a deep amateur pedigree, but also in her mid-30s. WBA women’s bantamweight titleholder Cherneka Johnson will rematch Nina Hughes. The first fight was close and best-known for the wrong winner being announced first. Riana Rios could be facing the winner of this at some point.
Saturday
Lester Martinez-Joeshon James
How to watch: Saturday, ProBox TV
What You Should Know: Both fighters will debut at light heavyweight as the fight has been canceld twice fight week. Martinez is with Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, and James has beaten some of the best undefeated fighters for a fighter of his calibar.
Undercard: Junior middleweight Vladimir Hernandez is featured on the undercard, as is Anthony Cuba who just had a great fight on ProBox TV in February. The two notable 50-50 fights of the undercard are: Jessie Magdaleno-Louis Coria, and Charles Harris-Angel Rebollar. Magdaleno is a former beltholder who is inactive, whereas Coria nearly beat Robson Conceicao, and is a good pressure fighter. Harris was an outstanding amateur who prematurely lost as a pro, and is rebuilding while Rebollar has taken a lot of hard fights and upset a few prospects already.
Saturday
Maliek Montgomery-Jeremy Hill
How to watch: Saturday, DAZN, check local listings
What You Should Know: Montgomery continues to make strides in OTX Boxing and facing Hill is a good step-up as he looks for a 50-50 fight later this year.
Undercard:
A strong undercard features Kurt Scoby, David Lopez, Jonathan Mansour, and Donte Layne. Every fighter listed has a chance to challenge for a world title in their career, at least to me.
